Went for a walk in the country. Almost got gored by a bull. Met some rather foreboding looking cows. Just another Thursday evening really…
I took a while to realise I’d walked into the bull paddock, when I noticed that the “cows” ahead of me were a little bigger than the other ones I’d passed. They had horns, too. The biggest one was looking at me with a glint in its eye. As I slowed my pace towards it, it began to walk towards me, with more than a hint of menace. I remembered that cows don’t have horns, bulls have horns. These were definitely bulls. As my new acquaintance quickened his pace towards me and lowered his head, I turned and ran very quickly back over the cattle grid and out into the safety of the main field, simultaneously swearing and laughing at myself.
So when I later met the entire herd of cows pictured above, who were also glaring at me and refusing to move from my path, I was more than a little uneasy. We know that cows are docile creatures, but I wasn’t entirely sure that anybody had explained this to them. Fortunately they soon dispersed as I got closer, but it still made for a foreboding blockade…

Heh, the ones in the photo are the cows I bumped into after the bull ‘experience’.
Didn’t have time to photograph the bulls, as I was running away – very very quickly…
Why do cows wear bells? Their horns don’t work!
